I have an application that requires .Net 3.5. I tried to download but got an error something like - cannot download file from Windows Update. Any suggestion?

In Windows Server 8, you can add .NET 3.5 as a feature (.NET 4.5 is installed by default), so I'm assuming you can in Windows 8 as well.

@cbae is correct - use add/remove windows features to add the .Net 3.5 back.
