What happened?

Why this requiem for an ASP dream? Are you aware of the kind of constant and annoying errors users were getting on a daily basis due to the technology decisions you had boasted about in that telling blog article from early 2006?

He actually boasted about 4 different sites, and three of them are still amongst the top trafficked sites according to the site that you linked. In fact, 5 of top 26 sites are running on Windows Server and IIS:

And a 6th, yahoo.com at #4, is partly powered by a Microsoft stack.

I think they get the results via dedicated application servers MS set up for them, then they cache them locally at central server and serve them back out to the edge servers which have them memcached for hit/miss delivery. On the web side they run free open source edge servers under the Apache project:

Oh, and Yahoo's biggest web app is mail, not search. So it really doesn't make your point either way.

The new 3d stuff and SL5 features are cool but once again WPF is playing catch up Ever since silverlight first came out microsoft has said that is was going to be a subset of the full framework, yet this never seems to happen.

SL keep getting new features not available in WPF. WPF do get some of them but like a year later, and by that time some new feature has been added to SL

Is there a reason why you dont release these new SL apis as external libraries for .net as well? After all isnt the api pretty much the same? Why not do that with the whole SL BCL? (minus the parts that directly overlap with the .net BCL)

That would make things so much easier also also not make .net/wpf developers like my self feel like chumps

Maybe this question will be obsolete after the keynote.. i hope so, but i kinda think it will be even more relevant :/

I cant stress enough how extremely frustrating it is to not get any information about the wpf vs silverlight position at microsoft..

To be and i think a large portion of devs out there it seems like youre letting wpf slip into a legacy technology and positioning SL as the premier development solution for most apps.

Yes, VS and expression is written partially in wpf, but they also use a load of com and native, other platforms that you're not exactly placing as first class citizens of your dev story. Yes, there are lower level features that is only available in wpf, but that just makes the situation even more painful since you're always missing features you want regardless of the platform.

i will say this though, if the community/customers is not already feeling wpf is beeing killed, not adding support for the xaml debugging will certainly do it..

If you submit a question that doesn't get asked live on the air then there are a few possible reasons why:

1) We missed your question due to a flood of retweets/spam/other questions
2) We ran out of time (there were a lot of questions for The Gu)
3) There's no answer for your question (yet). By this I mean, you've possibly asked a question where a decision has yet to be made, locked in on confirmed and therefore our guest can't give you a definite response.

We're doing our best to address all incoming questions

i got a alot of questions in and thats cool, but i think that alot of important questions got overlooked, some asked by me and some by others

btw i wanna make it clear that im dissapointed at microsoft in general for not beeing clearer on these SL vs Wpf issues. (its kinda hard to be mad at the Gu though) i dont blame c9live for that
