@Proton2: Don't get me wrong, BitLocker (or other encryption) would be better than nothing. But even then that would seem to be a case of the voting machine fallacy:

 Even in cases where they don't have the infrastructure saving it on laptops and other portable devices is asking for trouble. If needs must a desktop firmly locked to a secure fixing would be better...
