Don't get it....

@sysrpl:Grats! Now install a decent webbrowser

-
@Maddus Mattus: I have Chrome installed, but I still prefer Firefox. If you are referring to IE9 or whatever, it might be good but I wouldn't know because the installer crashes on me 100% of the time.
-
@Harlequin: Think hard.
-
I see Firefox, what looks like a 3rd party screenshot/snippet program, and a system info with WIndows 7 Ultimate 64 info...and a subject line at the top of this page that says "I finally fixed Windows 7"....don't see it...
-
@sysrpl: There is always one isn't there, why did you not save yourself some money and stay on XP?
If you were in charge, the world would never move on from XP and Delphi because that is what you like. I am afraid you are in the minority, people aren't stupid!
In fact, the most vocal developers (smart as they are) suck on GUI issues. I know this post might flare up as intended, but you are wrong because that is not what the rest of the world wants. I challenge you (or W3bbo) to sit down with people from leading design agencies and discuss your ideas. The Win 7, Win Mobile 7 and Window 8 user interface is gorgeous, and a mark of progress

@Harlequin:He is running an XP UI on windows 7

@vesuvius: I needed to upgrade to be able to use all my RAM and also to write Direct2D graphic code. Windows 7 is obviously better than Vista, no one will argue with that, but UAC was designed to annoy people[1] [2], especially developers, so no, not everything newer is better.
Also, I do a heck of a lot of design work. Much more than you I'm sure [3]. Vista deprecated the theme system introduced in XP [4].
Edit: If I was in charge at Microsoft I'd completely open Windows up to end user customization and allow users to make Windows look and work however they want. I wouldn't spend Microsoft resources rearranging the control panel. I would spend Microsoft resources allowing developers to safely create compositing engine "plugins".

@sysrpl:I have heard all these arguments before, and they are quite stale and boring. The problems are all in your mind. Windows 7 with the broken UAC has just sold 400 Million units, half of XP's total in just over 2 years. If UAC or security was an issue, my Mum would not be able to use it and I would be inundated with reqests from family to repair their machines. Even my uncle who is nearly blind loves Windows 7 because it comes with magnifying software that makes it easy for him to use any computer and the fonts are clearer.
Not only do I do design work, I also use design agencies, but lets move away from my dad is bigger than your dad.

Looks fugly.

@sysrpl: Opening up the theming system could be disasterous. Microsoft would have to forbid OEMs from touching it, otherwise they would rape peoples computers with custom themes. Have you seen the UI quality of the crapware apps built by HP, Dell, etc? Where's the "I just threw up a little in my mouth" emoticon?
-
@sysrpl:I have a PC that I use as a MediaCenter that is half the spec you put there,..
And it runs IE 9 just dandy,..
Why does your instalation of Windows 7 suck so hard?
Bad drivers?
-
@sysrpl: Have you run your Windows Experience Index calculation recently? For a notebook running a T9500, your WEI sucks pretty hard. My 4 year old notebook is running a slower T9300 CPU (which I upgraded from an ancient T7300) and a graphics card that has only 256MB RAM, and it has a WEI of 5.9.
-
@cbae: WEI depends on the slowest component. If he has a slow hard drive, the overall score would be low no matter the rest of the system.
@Maddus Mattus: If he's tinkering with stuff to mess with the theming system to make it look ugly like that, I wouldn't be surprised if he's messed with other components of the system as well to cause IE9 to fail installation. I'm reminded about when W3bbo complained his start menu Documents, Music, etc. entries didn't work on Win7 and it turned out to be because he'd deliberately disabled the COM objects that are needed for libraries.

That's why I asked him if he's ever refreshed his WEI. The hard drive is one of the few things on a notebook that you can upgrade fairly easily and economically.

Something is horribly wrong if you cannot install IE9. Your Win7 probably have been improperly tempered with, either by malware or by you unintentionally. I would do a clean install because the system is dirty and I hate dirty system.

@Sven Groot: thanks

Hacking the registry,... always a bad idea,..
