I will be at the event in San Diego to see if there is adequate ROI. If they go into the high 5 or low 6 digits, I'll put some people on it (from oDesk).

I'm going to put a full stop hold on this until cash amounts are specified specifically with guarantees.

They better say exactly how much they're offering at the event in San Diego and what kind of guarantees they're offering teams.

Coding WP7 for the hell of it is not a popular pastime in the mobile industry.

Under 25k it doesn't make financial sense. Even oDesk teams don't work for free, and why would you do it to break even? That's just time and head ache wasted.

All I am saying is that they better not make this a colossal waste of time like the other WP7 initiatives.

You know how people on social networks get ad blind? People are getting Windows Phone blind right about now.

I might go regardless, because 01001001, somehow I actually very often get free sh!t from going to Microsoft events.

I don't think these are the kinds of Apps Nokia wants anyway. Dumb little one offs. I think they want real apps, so we'll see if they'll put up or shut up with the real money.

$99 is nothing. If you're a professional software developer, you make that in a little over an hour. Even oDesk teams hired on iOS games make that in a half day per employee, even for designers.

Nobody in the real world is going to cry over $99. Lots of people are happy to send Apple $99 a year for iOS + $99 for OS X, + whatever else and hand over sensitive paperwork to boot for company verification.

That's not the point. Your time is far more valuable to the marketplace. That's the X factor they have to overcome, and I don't know if they will. That's why I am going to this event.

They are probably not going to get many "real apps" in a one day hackathon. I think they are trying to hip and cool by mimicking open source hackathons, but they missed the fundamental difference: in a open source hackathon developers work together, not against each other.

Also I seriously doubt I'd make back that $99 and to be honest wouldn't go into learning about WP7 with the intention of making money, that just might be a happy accident.  

On a related note I am not iOS Developer Program registered. I also recently opted for an Android phone instead of either iOS or WP7 partly because I didn't want to have to pay $99/year to run MY code on MY phone.  

If you really wanted to do that you could simply jail break it.
