Haven't we learned that we don't want desktops on our phones? What am I missing?

Well it would be kinda neat if it was dual personality. Say when used as a phone it looks and behaves like windows phone 7. But then you sync a bluetooth keyboard and mouse with it and some wireless monitor interface like intel's widi and then bam it is a pc

Dock your phone, not your laptop. I was thinking this when MS announced porting Windows to everything.

Ugly as a featurephone, and about as useful as those ill-fated "Origami" UMPC designs from 2006.
Fortunately this doesn't seem to be a Microsoft-backed project, but much more likely the result of an exec at Fujitsu demanding his engineers design something he dreamed of one night, to satisfy his desires for some boyish "dream device". I would like to see the market research that supported the development of this project.
C'mon this is a fantastic 'gadget' that if we had money to burn we would all like to have!
Don't forget it is (probably) going to be upgradable to Win 8 (and maybe become quite useable in the process?)
WOOT!
I suspect it's more of an experiment in getting a fully blown PC into the mobile phone form factor, something which we may well see a lot more of once Windows 8 is released. Can't say it's terribly appealing right now as quite aside from an impractical UI I can't see it having particularly great battery life.
Cannot imagine how things fit in that tiny screen.
This is a specialized phone, not one meant for the masses. Attacking it based on what you want, considering that, is just plain stupid. This phone wasn't made for you.
I've heard this was meant for commuters in Japan who would "dock" this to kiosks in order to access their work documents. So it does have a purpose, and probably fits the intended purpose very well. It's just a niche purpose that doesn't apply to you (or me, or Johnny down the street).
I think it's kind of neat, although I doubt I'd use "windows 7 mode" without a docking station of some sort.
I also think this is MS's grand plan - to get windows on every device. Windows 8 is the first step by supporting ARM and the new touch-centric start screen. Putting it on phones is the next logical step.

Even if that is the purpose, it doesn't seem to be very well executed.
"dock to kiosks to access work docs"
Sounds like WP7 and free WiFi would be more in tune with it being 2011 and not 2004.

Hey now - no ripping on the Origami UMPC's - I have one in my car and it's still merrily providing full GPS and Car Stereo functions and I love it. ![]()
....okay, it is getting old and slow, but I'm waiting to see what 7 or 10 inch Windows 8 tablets come out before replacing it.
@wkempf:
or maybe connect to a 1080p video vision glass with some kinda of mind control interface. One can only dream. ![]()
I personally think that thing is pretty cool! And yes, if I had the money to buy one, I would. I had a few instances just this week where I was wishing that I had Word on my phone, and it looks like this phone would do the trick.
I think this is just one of many more such devices to come...
@quantum_kev: If you want Word, you can just get WP7 device. It would be a much better experience than trying to use the full Word on such a tiny screen.
Or better yet get an iPhone and iWork. Which is possibly the best mobile office experience available.

Er... my WP7+Skydrive+Hosted Exchange setup begs to differ.
You can make presentations with Exchange these days? That's cool.
Anyway it's just my opinion.
