Indeed, and it's ridiculous.  Basically IE10 on Win7 looks a lot better. 

Any other browser of courses uses DirectWrite with sub-pixel positioning on Win8, so basically IE10 on Win8 gives you the weakest font rendering - not exactly helping to spur adoption.  Just bizarre.

That of course assumes that you consider Win7 - IE rendering to be acceptable. Personally, I've never been able to live with it, finally resorting to installing Chrome-Frame with the rendering engine permanently enabled, just to get a hybrid of IE9 that I could actually read the text with.

Thanks for the additional responses.. As a simple humble developer.. I have no idea how this is deemed acceptable. Host browser on the Host OS is fugly to the point it's unusable and actually, physically hurts me, yet a competitors is lovely. Makes no sense to me.

I want to know what decisions were made about Accessibility on this or where I stand. Can I send MS my bills if my eyes get even worse or my headaches continue? Can I have a refund please? Am I holding it wrong?

Single biggest flaw in Windows 8.  If I could buy monitors at 4K resolution, I'd let them off a bit.  But with desktop monitors hanging around 90DPI still, we need ClearType.

I'm not sure what the scope is of what they refer to as the "Windows SDK changes" but it would be nice if it included updates to WinRT that allowed desktop apps access to share contracts and the like.

And there we have the reason why so few Softies still post on this forum: because people assume that everything they say is an official Microsoft response.

I suppose the short answer is no-one cares, deal with it. But I ask why can every competitor browser render fine except your own on your own OS? Makes.No.Sense.

I'm using the latest version of the best software ever created and it hurts, physically hurts to do so.. That's all I'm saying and trying to fathom why or if it will be alleviated. For all I know it's an issue to be resolved, but I don't...

And it's annoying. Official responses would come in terms of press releases, statements from gms, and so on. Not on forum, not from someone who's not director level or above. *sigh*

I already know that anything you said Barry, is your opinion. Just as every other post I read on every other forum or social site. But you are in a special position which you worked hard for.. like others. Which I now find harder due to changes I understand nothing, but am curious about. It's curiosity that drove many of us here.

In my defence, I think more has been assumed of me here more than anything else.. but if I had achieved what you have, after all that hard work, I would have been more of an ambassador at least. There are things that all of us would like to know more about, there is no shame in asking.

OK true, and apologies.

However I'm not on the IE team, and frankly I like to have fun when posting here. You won't hear me say anything on behalf of MS because the stuff I do isn't public facing at all. If I had to have a serious face when posting here I don't think I'd post ever. I'd like to think I can be human, regardless of my employer.

And the tragedy is that it wasn't just "some MS employees". At some point or other we've had Bill Hill, Raymond Chen, Mark Russinovich to name but a few, never mind the guest appearances by ScottGu and Bill Gates himself (although admittedly not in the Coffeehouse).

Simple - they are doing everything to make the desktop look like *, to force a migration from it (to Toytro). That's why Aero is gone also, not to mention the usuability issues that are caused by the loss of start menu and the bizarre default image/video viewers in Win8. 

Any other possible answer for all this? Sure, ONE element in this puzzle would mean not much, but all the pieces combined give a very clear picture. There are just too many of those to be a mere accident.

The big problem with this though is that Windows 8's adoption isn't stellar, Win7 (even Vista) gives the better desktop experience, thus the upgrade pace is slow. They want to do a successful "new coke" thing, yet they forgot that most customers have an "old coke" stock that lasts until 2020 and many of them don't like the new coke taste very much.

Yeah, it's as if Mercedes would want to ditch all their models in favour of the Smart, and thus would start to cripple all their other models by turning them all into two-seaters and limiting them to 50 kilometres per hour, together with an ugly paint job. Problem is, most people have cars already! Enforcing stuff by making your current products bad is bizarre.

This is a very obvious cynical strategy to force New Coketro, but also a very clumsy one.

Problem is, even if there were cheap high-DPI monitors available today, the experience of using them on Windows would be sub-par as MS has made zero improvements to DPI scaling for desktop apps in Win8.

In every business I've worked in, you don't put your company logo at the end of what you're saying unless you're saying it as an employee of that company.

 Maybe you guys should look into this if you want to stop future confusion.

Plus if it wasn't there, well you'd get cries of MS hiding who is an employee and pretending to be normal users. Not sure you can "win" with, or without.
