IE 9 Advert in Cinema

Why do Microsoft advertise IE9, Just back from Cinema and seen a two minute advert for IE9, Do Microsoft care what browser you use as long as your running Windows?

so why would Google care to advertise Chrome when you can use Google.com from all major browsers? 

yes. You control the browser, you control the default search provider. Google pays Firefox $150 million a yr to set themselves up as the default search provider.

It used to be that if you control the browser, you control the HTML standards. Not so much no more

I think there is a perception that Internet Explorer is the worst thing ever. If Microsoft can polish that coprolite, it will make Windows seem more attractive.

I think you'll find that the HTML standards are controlled primarilly by Google, Apple, the Mozilla Foundation and to a lesser extent Microsoft these days.

Is it just a massive coincidence that they almost exactly match the major browser vendors of Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Internet Explorer?
