This is the most current word I can find. It was in a thread where a Sync Framework 2.1 user found a bug and asks if SF is sundowned and replaced by SQL Azure Data Sync... The incremental release sounds like bug fixes and nothing more. What is the plan for sync, %100 cloud?

One key element of Microsoft's mobile platform strategy is Active Sync, which is implemented across almost all non-Microsoft-OS mobile devices out there. Active Sync is designed to help coordinate data but it also can be used to locate devices that are lost or stolen.

I'm beginning to think the synchronization of data must become ubiquitous and thus folded into OS file system operations seamlessly so that 'all our devices are won'.

...that the unspoken roadmap (gracefully avoiding pedantic outcriers?) is folding sync into everything... Maybe Rx will have a role to play in a new strategy for data propogation among subscribing devices.
