Is it possible to turn the kinect in webcam, such as Skype?

How can I make kinect in webcam, such as Skype? Sorry, I do not speak English.

The question is, does Skype have an API to make your own clients with and toy around.

Any Kinect./Skype marriage would be the Kinect controlling Skype in some way. How do you see it being used?

Turning a Kinect into a regular webcam that can be accessed by other apps is something I thought would be done right away so it's strange that it hasn't.

@Bass: Boring but wonderful. Web-cams are typically terrible, the Kinect is by web-cam standards a massive improvement plus you could use depth information for focus/tracking.

If you plug in a Kinect into a semi-recent Linux machine, it magically works as a webcam already.

Somone created a filter that does let you use it in skype but trouble is it takes a little messing around with to get it to work in other application besides whats listed in the thread.

Its been their since the first kienct beta came out and the owner keeps updating a few months after every release comes out.
