The multi-user thing is neat, though.

i'd really like to see scrolling in windows with kinect. having your elbow resting on the table or arm rest of the chair and being able to scroll. you could "grab" the page by entering a selection "plane" perpendicular to the screen, similar to the one of the first multi touch demos with kinect

you could use the angle of the wrist [something that is definitly possible, even adventures does that] and ignore the spatial position of the hand.Then you could sit back in your chair and scroll through a long page.

now what would be reaaally awsome is combining this with head tracking to effectivly move the interaction from the screen space into the users view space. basically that would make your finger the actual cursor, not something you drag a cursor around with..

that would probably still be best for things like media center [and xbox] though, i think our fingers are generally to "fat" to replace a nimble cursor

If it's anything like the Kinect controls for Joy Ride, it'll write your program for you.

They should be able to to rightclicks (or other types of "clicks") by doing some sign with your hand entering the "clicking plane". That whould not mean 1:1 finger tracking but much simpler class recognition

To delete something you could give it the finger

The demo of Kinect with amulet software uses a diferent recognizer and does not use profiles at all, it uses the server recogniser that has been optimised for the broadest number of users with a wide variation in speech types.

Also the use of Amulet custom screens is optional when selecting the media, they help when you dont know what media you have or what you want to say, but the user can stick to just MS screens if he/she prefers.

The most expensive part of Kinect for Windows is paying the person who is going to develop an experimental technology, not the $250.

That being the case, this should have been priced closer to free than $250 since there are no software titles for this unit at all.

Mind you I work for huge mobile companies, and this is yet another pass after Windows 7 phone, because of a sticking point of some zealous executive. I literally have emails fly by my desk from execs at huge mobile companies saying how they're going to pass on Microsoft completely.

Microsoft is acting and pricing like they are on top, and they're not. 1995 == gone.

No reduced price for Bizspark either, plus the $60,000 of free Azure for Bizspark companies turned out to be a lie.

Is it time to have another funeral for the non-existent competitor to the Kinect? Funeral for the PS Move maybe?

Anyone wanting to help my project i plan on getting it to work with these programs with kinect by the end of project:

1. microsoft mouse mischief

2. microsoft multipoint mouse sdk (not multipoint server which is completely different)

3. study island (going to talk to support once i get my project in an alpha stage and might need to emulate a clicker device instead this time).

This is for a real life replacement scenario of smartboards at my work which is a K-12 organization which are 1,500 - 2000 dollars a piece.
