LG has decided to stop making WP7 phones, citing lack of consumer interest:

The company will continue to research future mobile products based around Windows, but for now they're focussing on the Android market.

Granted, WP7 isn't doing so well, but I think this one of these cases of the OEM looking for someone else to blame. LG made a phone that was pretty ordinary two years ago and then failed to market it since. Manufacturers have to realise that there's more to making a successful mobile product than slapping an OS on it and hoping for the best.

And given LG's efforts to date, I'm not sure they're going to fair any better in an overcrowded Android market place.

While the rumor is false, it is also true that most WP7 devices are cheap low quality devices. Now suddenly those same OEMs need to compete with Nokia that is putting some serious design/quality into their phones at very aggressive prices. So of course if they want to continue to crank out low-quality phones, there won't be much consumer interest.

Case in point... In some ways the HTC Titan II is superior to the Lumia 900 (especially the camera), yet it's release was buried by the Lumia 900 hype. I'm sure HTC isn't happy with that, especially since Nokia is pricing the Lumia 900 at $100 less than the Titan II.

Coffeehouse - Lg: No more Windows Phones from us

I think most of the "hate" towards the camera on the Lumias stems from two things: Nokia is famous for their cameras and in comparison these are lackluster and they've done a bad job with the software. Yes, I know that the camera software is supplied by the OS, but HTC did a better job of managing the settings. You can get great photos out of the Lumias, but you'll usually have to mess with the camera settings to do so.

It's not so much that the camera is bad, it's certainly not, it's just not as good as the HTC or as good as people expected from Nokia. Unfortunately, with the way this is reported it comes across to the consumer that the Lumia has a poor camera.

As for LG, whether they make another Windows Phone or not is irrelevant. They only ever made one lackluster phone that was buried by the competition. Whether they stay in the game or not is not an indicator of whether or not WP is failing, like the pundits are trying to claim. The rumor was and is a non-story.

Yes, looking at the quote from the Korea Herald again, I think I (and the IT pundits) misinterpreted what was being said.

"The total unit of Windows Phone sold in the global market is not a meaningful figure," said the LG spokesman is reported as saying, further elaborating that it currently had no plans of rolling out another LG-manufactured Windows Phone soon.

The first bit is actually quite positive, as LG is saying they don't believe there's anything to be gleaned from the WP7 sales figures. And it makes no sense to roll out another WP7 phone if WP8 is somewhere on the horizon.

With any luck they'll put a bit more effort into the next one.

There are many reviews around the web that prove this. It still isn't a bad camera but low-light conditions result in a lot of blue noise.

My personal feeling is that Nokia shopped around for a lot of cheaper components all around in order to bring the price down.
