Looks like it's end-of-life for Live Mesh. Too bad they couldn't wait until the SkyDrive client had comparable features. The original mesh client was fantastic. Then they merged it with Live Sync and threw out some features. Now SkyDrive takes it place with even less features. Can't wait for the migration to Windows-8-style-UI apps...

"Microsoft - Where Less is More!"

The Skydrive app as it is now is next to useless.

Why would you need that? Just put everything you want synced into a single folder regardless of what it is, what context it belongs in, what project it belongs to, and who should be allowed to access it.

Didn't you hear? Only computer geeks with an MCSE who work as server administrators have the mental capacity and emotional maturity to organize their files. Everyone else is a stupid idiot who doesn't understand what a folder is and gets a deer in the headlights look when they sit in front of a computer. Come on. It's 1992 for crying out loud.

Meh. I tried it out, and other than the 'everything in one root folder' annoyance, it functions the same as Mesh. I just don't understand why MSFT keeps screwing around with their sync products like this. Foldershare worked. Mesh worked. Skydrive works (so far). So, hey, guys, perhaps you could concentrate your efforts on some other products now.

Coffeehouse - Live Mesh - RIP

I'm sticking with Mesh (and therefore the old essentials) until it actually stops functioning, or until Skydrive gets the features I need (or until it's inevitably replaced with something else again).

At the very least I want to be able to sync folders from other locations in the file systems (I know you can already do this with a trick, but actual support would be nice) and have the option to not sync certain Skydrive folders. I don't need several gigs of photos synced to my extremely space-limited laptop SSD drive. Non-cloud sync would also be nice for some things, but if I have to I can live without it.
