Very good news indeed. Clean up is what Microsoft needs to do the most in my opinion.
Sounds good. Cleaner naming all around. A Microsoft Account is much clearer than a Windows Live ID. And the whole Windows Live Mail/Windows Live Mail Desktop/Windows Live Hotmail naming thing was a fiasco from the get go.
Wow, a logical move.
Let's hope this will solve my language problem too.
Keep it up MS. I'm really liking this new cleaner approach to things.
@ZippyV: I am with you trust me!
How depressing, I was looking forward to my Microsoft MSN Hotmail .Net Live Windows Office Plus XBox Bing 2013 account. I guess I'll have to wait a few weeks until Microsoft changes direction yet again and introduces something new.

When you can sign into more than one account at the same time (or at least swap between them without having to log out and back in every time), then there will be cause for celebration.

Google recently added support for that with their accounts, so maybe that will convince MS to follow suit?
God, I hope so. I'm not looking forward to having to ditch all my Messenger contacts on Windows 8 because I logged in with a different live ID than the one I use for Messenger.
If you need to be logged into two Live IDs, you can always use two different browsers.
OR, you can launch the browser in "InPrivate" (IE) or "Incognito" (Chrome) mode to log into your 2nd account. These features aren't just for looking at pr0n. ![]()
Someone really, really, really needs to come up with an identity wrangler standard that can be used to manage that stuff withouth giving anyone a way to know that JohnSmith is also KittyKatLover45 as well as MMAFanatic99.

Live ID's are not just for logging into websites.
Usually I just called Microsoft Excel, as Excel. It feels kind of strange to call Microsoft Account as Account. But since we all know Windows is Microsoft Windows, I guess it is matter of time that we all know Account is Microsoft Account.
@JoshRoss: I suspect he would have been.

One can log into 2 Live IDs using the same browser also. Just use a New Session. In IE , File > New Session
