in the first minutes of this video Stephen Blackburn mentioned David Tarditi and 'Midori', saying they are doing interesting work on garbage collection front, and he mentioned Midori once again at about 7:35

Midori is basically some extension of Singularity right?

Yeah there were rumors that the project had been killed, but there were job ads for it (= "Technical Strategy Incubation") posted as recently as about a month ago.

@felix9: After watching the video, I feel slightly more informed about garbage collection. However I would like to offer a plot spoiler, all the Midori stuff in his presentation takes place after the camera stops recording.

Singularity may be a starting point  or conceptual prototype of Midori initially, but I think Midori has gone far beyond the scope and scale of Singularity now. I guess such an incubation project must be super fast pacing and often changing radically. It seems like the current focus is on modern UX architecture and safe concurrency model, they even want a new language to do that.
