Personally I think 'Modern' is too generic a replacement for Metro, 

I think I could live with something like 'Fresh' as a replacement, also generic but less used in a technological context and could take on a relevant new meaning.

Bit late I know, but anyone have any other suggestions?

Modern was the codename for Metro before the UI team coined 'Metro', which is why this is being bandied around.

The official term is "Windows8 style".

But they're giving names to the actual implementations of the Metro design language. It doesn't make sense for the product and the design language to share the same name.

I would have preferred they don't even mention "UI" in the name. Immersive apps would have sounded nicer.

I suspect that the grocery store is still smarting over the use of  "Apple", "Orange", "Blackberry" etc..

ISSUES TO BE ADDRESSED

- if you put your startbar on top - the flyout for "NewStart" stays at the bottom.

it needs to follow the customized choice around the screen corners

- I really dont see the harm in making a new start button - you click with mouse or finger - that isnt hidden.

it still launches "NewStart" (old metro) but you dont have to think about where it is.  If not - at least let the hot corner be where you put your taskbar (on both sides)

PS - the charms bar thing - the swiping from right doesnt work for me... it only works if i put mouse in top or bottom right corner.  this will clash with above.

maybe make it so corners are ALL for New Start - and sides are for new ALT-TAB (left) or charms (? dumb name) right - SIDES

New Start is what it is... less scarry - plus you can market it:  better, bigger, funner, cooler. (or whatever)

I remember win95 Start launch fondly - maybe many others do....

it makes even more sence when you think vista and win7 had NO START

EDIT - imagine if - where ever possible you could have 2 billboards side by side - youd buy them - and  then run both side by side - the old original start ad - and a new one
