I'm not sure I understand Googles approach with regard to embracing HTML5? I assume that some if not all of these apps are HTML5 but all I got when trying to select one in IE was 'Available on Chrome'. So does that mean that in Googles eyes HTML5 and Chrome are synonymous?
I know these apps are for the ChromeBook but isn't that HTML5 based? (Or is it HTML5+ Google proprietry?)
With apologies if I am missing something but isn't the point of HTML5 that it is browser agnostic?

While I cannot speak for Google, I can share my thoughts. I think they want a leveled playing field. They want a world where no one is in charge. A world with open standards. Luckily it exists. Called the "internet". And it turned into Google's playing field.
Also luckily for me is that I would like the same thing, so I am a Google fanboy for now. That is why I see Facebook as an evil thing. I understand that the net is hard to use. I realize that a large portion of users don't even know what's a URL bar (hence the top search words are facebook, yahoo, gmail etc.), and I understand that a common task as uploading pictures to the net is unnecessarily hard. But the fact that facebook is a recreation of the internet under Zuckerberg's control scares me dearly. [since I don't use facebook i might not being just with them]
