New Fuggly W8 logo

I guess they must have thought the WP logo was a success so they embraced and extended its fuggliness to W8. I just wonder if the marketing companies and designers that Microsoft uses have some running joke to see who can get Microsoft to look the most foolish. Maybe for W9 they can go even further with a 8-bit design, nicely dithered.

I am confused, the logo is really Windows 1.0 logo with transforms applied? Not the Bill Gate's favorite Green, Red, Blue, Yellow squares?

I've seen worse. The left to rightness of it, invokes the thought of metro movement. Like the widely adored Lumia 900, it makes use of the cyan print color. Clean lines and type align with the metro marketing language.

Personally many of the Metro ideals make me ill. Specifically the idea of fast, fluid, high contrast, avant-garde, Hans Hofmann The Gate-ish visuals.

Anyway, I like it.

Looks ugly to me. I'd like it better if they got rid of the angle. Make it rectangular like Metro tiles.

I like it.  It is much more clear and to the point.  I was always confused as to why the Windows logo was a flag.

Do you just like to come here and complain about everything Microsoft?

Really? for me, without the 4 colors, it is not Windows. The tiles are fine, I just feel like Windows should have 4 colors.

@magicalclick: I agree. I think it needs the 4 colors. However, it's supposed to change color with the theme you choose.

Ahhh....  I guess that's ok then. I hope they can keep the Win7 Startup Orbs though, it looks so awesome. I actually have butterflies in my stomach when I was watching it for the first time.

The change does bring it in line with the other logos.

I like the new Windows logo better than the Xbox logo, and much more than the bing logo.

But not as much as the Visual Studio logo.

Somebody is going to make a killing selling new keyboards or at least a replacement key.

For me, I rarely look at the start menu or down at the Windows key enough to care. They can make it glowing red like a baboon's a$$ for all I care.

I wonder how well the Metro look & feel will age? At some point we're going tire of it and want something visually fresh. Will the "feel" adapt well to a new "look" in the future or will we be re-writing all our apps' UIs again rather than just re-skinning or adding gradients and bevels again or whatever the new post-Metro hotness ends up being?

I'm already kinda tired of the Metro visual style as it's being applied to Windows 8, though that may be in part to it's relationship to ruining the desktop (IMHO).

Nice Logo for the new Windows. Its fits in perfectly with the way Windows 8 looks and all future Microsoft products to come.

At the moment that's probably true. I used to be one of the biggest Microsoft fans. They've lost me over the past couple of years. I post here and elsewhere in hopes someone in the great ivory Microsoft towers will get a clue and start making some changes. That said every day seems to be a day further from realizing that goal. It's too bad because there are some really talented people in Microsoft. They just can't execute.

I'd love to be able to say "The new logo is great but it would be better if..." but there is no way to improve this child-like logo.
