I’d be flabbergasted if they were to be any eighth generation console in 2012, let alone from Microsoft... doubly so if the economy is still struggling (which it will be). 2015 (*maybe* 2014) is the earliest I would expect to see Microsoft release something in the 8th generation.

As a consumer/gamer, it'd be neat, sure... but speaking as a pragmatic, it simply isn't going to happen.

imo its not at all a given that microsoft will build their next console themselvs. they might just go out with a firm hardware spec for a 'console windows 8 system' and let other hardware vendors battle it out. Consoles should be PCs anyway, and microsoft has everything to gain from unifying the two..

Granted, its not the most probable way think will go down, but it would make alot of sense

The next Xbox will support DX11 and runs at 720p smoothly. And what? Not 1080p? I am talking about complex graphics and visual simulations here, not Lego Star Wars or Dragon's Lair 3D in case you are confused.

Probably will come out 2012 or 2013. Most likely 2012 because you can get a decent priced and decent DX11 performing hardware in 2012 (better than my HD5870 for sure). In 2013, DX11 would feel out-dated and yet DX12 will be too new.

One word: tesselation.

Tesselation is basically a simple version or NURBS or sub-divisions that artist can use it easily. Combined with animations, of well, those are mind blowing. Tesselation morph and smoke, dang.

The 360 took just over 2 years to develop.
