Only in America could a young person actually think that buying Air Jordans will make a 10 year old jewish white kid play basketball like a 30 year old professional basketball player.

Only in America could a young person actually think that buying a $175 turtleneck will make you into an egomaniac business mastermind.

In my world travels, I've found that this type of marketing doesn't really work anywhere else in the world. People simply don't believe it outside of the US. What a sad thing. At least they are donating $20 for each sale. Otherwise it would be totally profiting off of the whole situation.(which they're doing anyhow because you know it doesn't cost anywhere near $155 to produce a turtleneck)

And no, I wasn't looking for one myself. I saw this on KTLA-DT this morning. Yes DT, because I am not one of the suckers that pays for cable. I have an omnidirectional indoor DTV antenna.

I see nothing wrong with his original post (other than possibly the stereotyping of the athletic ability of white Jewish kids). I'm just saying that he didn't need to explain what channel he was watching or by what means he was watching that channel because I can't see how that information that he provided, unsolicited, is of any interest to anybody here.

I'd like to think that sales are skyrocketing because purchase of the turtleneck includes a $20 donation to cancer research.

Yes, I agree with you. It amazes me how people can take someone's death and turn it around as another money making opportunity, while making people feel like they are doing something good. They should give all the profits to cancer research, and don't try to tell us they make only $20 profit on a $175 turtleneck.

Better yet, do as Bass said just give all the money directly to cancer research and skip the turtleneck altogether.

Yes, but people like to get rewards for donating. Like the DVDs/concert tickets that NPR gives out when doing their fundraising.

To me it is nothing more than an opportunity to make a profit. Just give the whole $175 to research and bypass them.

When you donate $100 to NPR and get a T-shirt or something, about $5 or so goes to pay for the T-Shirt and $95 of it is an actual donation. So it's a bit different.
