Hmm. It really doesn't work easily when you have two LiveIDs because you switched countries and they wouldn't transfer.

Perhaps, dunno. But my Messenger contacts are in one account, along with my skydrive documents, and I have to use the other, US bound account for the phone to access marketplace. I could transfer messenger contacts, but meh, such a pain

In which case reset your phone and add the accounts in the right order.

Since most of what you have on the phone is 'in the cloud' and the rest if synchronised with your PC then you're not going to lose anything (I have done one wipe and reset on my phone since I got it a year ago and it only took about 10 minutes to re-add several live/outlook/google accounts).

The primary account needs to be US based - for app purchasing. You can add more, but it's email only at that point.

Yes, that's what wifi is. Every smartphone I've looked at in the past year has it.

Every phone made today comes with WiFi. Even phones costing under £150 come with WiFi. If it is a Smartphone with a touchscreen then there is a 99.99% certainty it comes with WiFi.

Back in the day I had one Live ID account associated with Xbox Live, one I used for Messenger (and MSDN forums + C9) that no longer had a valid email name but that I had accidently once logged into xbox.com as and managed to associate as a different Xbox Live account and a work one purely for accessing the department's MSDNAA account.

Trying to refactor the first two into a single Live ID so that I could get stuff on my WP7 phone to work as I wanted but without losing associated information and end up with something people wouldn't try to send email to was a nightmare. I'm only greatful I didn't have the 'location' problem too as that's clearly going to add to the frustration.

No kidding. They remain completely silent on the topic too. I desperately need to merge these two accounts for roughly half a decade now, but from the looks of it they're never going to bother providing for that. Linked accounts was nonsense to begin with.

I have a rubber skin on it anyway, so I don't feel the actual phone. The flash is impressive.

With the push for single sign-on and other identity foundation stuff, I was hoping that's what LiveID and/or OpenID would become.  I'm starting to see a lot more sites that use one or both of these (as well as facebook, oddly) to sign you in.  I guess if people trust verisign to keep track of that info, then that works, but it should be up to the consumer/user to carry or store this info any and everywhere they wish as well as expose whatever info they want to expose on a site by site basis. 

I might then keep track of credit card info and other actual identity stuff in there and then expose it to amazon but not to channel 9 even if they both request identity information from the same location.

I already feel a little dirty when I have to give credit card info to a site that isn't well known.  If instead I gave them the location of my info, they passed that along to Citibank, and then citibank asked for the actual card info, I could then trust Citibank and NOT have to give my card info to some random website.

I'm not sure how well Citibank would like it.  They make more money off of impulse purchases and their attitude towards fraud is that the customer should do the legwork when it happens.
