Pools and Spaces

I'm kind of excited about the Pools and Spaces. On the other hand, it's been a few years since I've had a computer with hard drive bays up the yin-yang. On my work computer, I have two dvd drives, two 3.5in hd bays, one with a disc the other with an SSD, and an external usb backup drive.

I'm of the mindset that spaces = raid and raid != backup. So, what gets me most excited is the thin provisioning and being able to throw a bunch of disks into an exclosure with the ability to split the physical layout of the drives from the logical layout.

Thoughts?

@JoshRoss: while raid != backup, a space would offer a fast and reliable mean to backup, assuming that is where you store the copies, not the original files themselves.

What gets me very excited about this, is that it looks like a very easy way to add fast and reliable storage space not only to personal computers, but also to servers in small and large offices (my understanging is that performance and speed wise it will perform similarly to RAID 10).

The only caveat is that this will work for direct attached storage: if I want to use a Space for backup purposes, ideally I would want to connect the Space to a remote computer which in turn is connected to my local network over a VPN. Still too complicated and probably slow for small office setups.
