Dear Customer,

In the coming weeks, we will update the Windows Azure Service names that appear in the usage records you download. These are only name changes – your prices for Windows Azure are not impacted. The table below summarizes the changes:

Windows 2000 Flushes Blue has a nice ring to it. You provide the load, we'll process the node.

Hmmm....... that's too genric though. It is going to be hard to search documentations and community support using such generic name. I don't like Windows Azure as well, because the result will start to confuse with Windows. Like when I search Windows Phone 7 related article, I ended up with Windows 7. And same with ASP.Net WebPages, quite difficult to filter out a good search result.

++. I think they should go "Microsoft Azure", like how they changed "Windows Live Id" to "Microsoft Account".

Windows should be what I get in a Windows CD (i.e. the kernel, win32k, MS drivers, and the apps that sit on top from lsass and csrss through to explorer and calc).

Microsoft shouldn't confuse customers by pretending that stuff on a Microsoft server somewhere is somehow part of that.

@cbae: I think it's more a case they've realised they don't really need to put the words 'Windows Azure' in front of everything in the usage reports. It also helps to emphasise that just because you're using e.g. 'SQL Reporting' in the cloud, it's not something different from 'SQL Reporting' that you previously ran locally. When it comes to convincing business folks, making stuff sound like it's not changing quite as much helps, because changes are almost always expensive.

Just and idea: for those that make the decision on branding must be branded with the name they choose. That might help cut down on the lengthily names they've used in the past (more painful) as well as make them think long and hard about what they want permanently scorched into their hides.

I am glad they are dropping the Windows Azure additive, consider this;

I have to chose Visio from this list;

• Microsoft Office Access 2010
• Microsoft Office Excel 2010
• Microsoft Office Visio 2010

• Microsoft Office Publisher 2010
• Microsoft Office InfoPath Filler 2010

When you have a product portfolio that consists of hundreds of products, many of which are variations on one another, you're going to be quite pleased that you chose a name that was unique enough that you didn't have to worry about someone picking the wrong one.

Or what?  Exactly how god-damn lazy do you have to be to want to avoid reading the words in a list item that are plainly different from the words in the previous list item.

So you get a "usage record" from Windows Azure. Do you really need to be told that you've used the Windows Azure Virtual Network rather than the Virtual Network?

This is a non-event.

Sounds to me like they're trying to clean up the Azure records/billing so they're not clogged with long product names.

Microsoft wouldn't have an actual product called "Storage"...
