I wanted to take this opportunity to give some feedback to the channel 9 experience for the latest Microsoft conference. First of all, it's fantastic all sessions are recorded and were online so fast! This is great and has been filling my nights for over a week now watching sessions. Great job!
However the experience can still be improved and I hereby want to give some suggestions.
# You switched to the HTML5 player by default for all //BUILD/ sessions. This seemed logical because then people would be able to view the sessions on their new tablets. However the HTML5 experience is bad to say the least. No full screen mode, video quality was low, no instant seeking. This meant people were asking for high quality video's all over the place. You needed to add the "format" button to the UI to make switching more easy (I guess that was a last minute update). So well done doing the last minute change to the UI to help with the HTML5 problems, however you could have avoided them and just provide HTML5 as a fallback, but now you just made a case against HTML5.
# I cannot subscribe to comments on session video's. This is really not handy because that is the way I track getting reactions to my comments. It's hard to keep track of all the sessions I commented on (okay it shows in my profile but I have to visit each page to know if there was something new). RSS showed my new comments in my reader. Since notifications are on the feature list for C9 but are not here yet, please add RSS for comments on session video's. Also, the speakers might not react to my comment because they don't know about the new comments which were made. We need notifications to spark the dialog.
# A lot of sessions refer to other sessions. It would be nice to have those related sessions in metadata of the current sessions, it would make navigating around the session collection much easier and help to fill a full night with related content to watch.
# Lastly, a lot of niners have wanted to create a Channel 9 app for Mobile devices or now even for the tablet. The only way to do it right now is using the RSS feeds or scrape the screen. Please add OData to the channel 9 website. It would be so much easier to browse the content and create custom experiences.
This is meant to be constructive feedback, please don't take it personal or as a blunt reaction to the great work you have been doing for the channel 9 community. I know you are very busy people and updating the actual C9 website itself sometimes falls to the background when conferences are coming up. Any response would be greatly appreciated.
