Is industrial automation finally beating out cheap labor?

When robots start building other robots and computer programs start writing other computer programs, I'd start to worry. Oh, wait...

@Bass:
Nah, the future is actually print the component on top of each other. Robot is outdated. 3D Printing is the future.

@magicalclick: totally agree, I would love to print my own Windows Phone

I wonder, longer term, whether this will eliminate the advantage of manufacturing in countries like China simply because labour is cheap? Could manufacturing even become more evenely distributed across the world to reduce distribution costs to a globalised customer base?

No, but robots don't jump off rooftops and out windows at FoxxConn, either... the cost in netting may fully offset the difference, though...

Until robots start building other robots, those robots will still be manufactured in Asia.
