Cool that you can now share posts in the Coffeehouse with Twitter/Facebook now.

Could you please try and make a video of your new sequencer app when it's released. We need more music apps for WP7 and showing it to people in video is a great way to get them thinking about making their own.

@jeffsand: Cool !

There is something terrible about this. The only thing Twitter is really good at is coordinating misinformation campaigns or serving as a root node for denial of service attacks. It certainly doesn't escalate the quality of discourse.
Now how am I supposed to explain to dovella that this is *not* Twitter?

I was reading an article that explains Apple's popularity in the land of Zen and the home of Sony is because, in recent times, Apple's design sense out-zenned the competition. That other companies' push for gimmicky features or early-market penetration caused quality to suffer, and Apple's deliberate lack of bullet-point features (call it an "omission statement" if you will) makes the product all the more a pleasure to use.
...and now Apple's chief rival introduces 'social' features to a website with a niche audience.
Can you see where I'm going with this?
(I can see the utility for this for the site's main content: the videos, but for forum posts it's just bandwagon overkill, not even mainstream forum software has that level of Aspergers-esque obsession.)
No, this is not "cool", it's sad, so very sad.

I wouldn't go quite as far as W3bbo, but I have to agree that I think this is entirely pointless. Instead of adding such useless features, could you please just add back the "go to first unread post" option properly? You know, like a whole bunch of us asked you to do when the site was still in beta?
EDIT: Apple lacks bullet-point features? Have you seen the feature lists for the average MacOS upgrade?
-
@Sven Groot:Are you implying that changing an icon isn't a revolutionary top-level feature?
However, I am kind of bummed. I haven't checked recently so maybe I missed it, but did twitter integration make it to the top of the request list on the connect site?
EDIT: FWIW I don't have accounts for Twitter or Facebook and don't see that happening any time soon.

It's a shame that not much happens in the Coffeehouse any more.

@rhm: I don't know what it is that changed, maybe the rest of the world catching up and stealing the format.
The forum format has changed, and simple things like knowing how many views a post has has being missing is mysterious. Look at any phpbb or even stack overflow..

@dentaku:I have dabbled but am always unhappy with the quality of the video.
OK, Will try again for Ambient.

Don't forget Metafilter, Yahoo Buzz, and Newsvine.

Cool if you're into that sort of thing, I guess. Can't say I'm too thrilled about this making the cut and other - in my opionion far more useful features - not making it though.

@Ian2: Hey, your new app looks just like one I downloaded last week, "Jamster Lite" - are you the author of that too?

Good thread.
When we built features for Channel 9, they can often fit into a number of buckets, like:
- new areas of the site (like the new coding 4 fun area)
- bug fixes
- user suggestions
The feature above of the sharing via FB / Twitter was added to a number of areas in this minor update. We added the ability to share projects, show pages with the idea that when people do this it helps build awareness of the content to other users and more people coming to Channel 9.
One of the things we've often tried to do with the coffeehouse is treat these forum posts with more equality to our videos and with that allow people to share them on the same terms as they would other content.
Thanks for the feedback on what you want done with the forums.

+100. Adding Twitter and Facebook support is entirely pointless, and if anything is a negative as far as I am concerned. It will just bring more spam and garbage to the site. There is a long list of things that should get attention before that. The one Sven mentioned being at the top of the list.

I'm afraid I'm in the 'time could have been spent better' camp. Bug fixes should be at the top of the priorities list.
