Hmm...... I hope they will announce some big plan / future roadmap with this release bits. ![]()

Not sure what else do we need. Async or Kinect support? Oh yeah hardware 3D acceleration, I think that hasn't happen yet. Would be super cool to have that. Maybe direct compute too.
-
given what was done with build .... i think it's going to just be bug fixes for a while and then nothing.
I like Silverlight! but given what MS has been doing and saying and what they *DID NOT SAY* at build all together i think that's what will happen going forward

Did everyone missed the whole SL5 beta/RC and the huge amount of info about it at MIX 11?

-
BTW, I remember they planned something awesome for .NET in the roadmap. Now I remember, it is the Script thing. I remember we can do script, so you can execute code without any compilation. It was demoed a long time ago. I hope it is there.

All I want is support for hardware-accelerated video decoding. HD Netflix taxes the Celeron in my HTPC.

@felix9: What do you have on Silverlight 3D for the Mac?
-
Why are they talking about Scott Gu. Isn't someone else in charge of that team? Thought he moved to the Azure stuff...did they move him and not replace him?
-
@fanbaby: nothing.
and personally I dont think it will be in SL5 release.actually, by 'big plan' I meant just 'commitment', if they can speak about the commitment to the crossplatform CLR/XAML platform then it will be the 'big news' for people.
@Harlequin: Scott talked about this in the podcast, he does not manage the team directly but he 'kept tabs on' the work they are doing.
-
@felix9: Thx, I think this, much much more then anything else, says a lot about SL as a flash killer. Then again, it doesn't mean it won't be implemented, just that no one commits to that.
DISCLOSURE: I hate Silverlight-for-the-web's guts.
EDIT: No one even wants to talk about it!
-
Not liking "Silverlight-for-the-web" means you don't think it's a good fit for the public? Besides Silverlight having superior media capabilities I agree. I think the only "front-facing" Silverlight stuff should be media players, and banner ads. Everything else in Silverlight just screeams LOB applications. But this goes back ten years when people were making full screen Flash websites that were just horrible. Don't want the same thing with a new technology.

It's worth noting that the Mono team has pretty much gave up on maintaining Moonlight, the last commit being in May. Can't say I blame them.
Their focus these days is on MonoTouch and Mono for Android and not much else.
-
Still no word about a release date for SL5? According to MJF there were rumors about it coming last week, but now it looks as it won't even be out this week because of Thanksgiving.
-
MJF took a guess in Windows Weekly, she said that MS might be thinking really hard about the wording of this 'death sentence' kind of announcement, I think this is a possibility.

-
I suspect it will just slip out when we are not looking.
-
oh come on ! now...... WHERE IS IT ???????
-
Just had to download the RT again to run a (dev) job on another machine - couldn't wait any longer.
So sods law says it will be with us within the hour ....!
