actually it is a requirement of SQL Server 2010 RC0

it is newer than RC which is 5.0.60818.0, and the files are signed on 2011/10/29, but the description of MSI still says 'Silverlight CTP'.

Anyone seen the roadmap for 5.5? 6.0? I'm sure it's just laying around here somewhere...

I guess Silvelight 5 is just a branch in the avalon core code base, while the main trunk becomes Jupiter / WinRT Xaml long ago.

Avalon is not dead. CoreCLR may be dead.

@felix9: So Microsoft isn't going to release SQL Server 2010 until 2012? That's a really long development cycle--even for Microsoft.

more like this....   having a sql server 2010 is fast.

look back at prior release times....     like  sql 6.5 => sql 7   =>  sql 2000 => sql 2005  => sql 2008

so if it's really sql 2012 rtm then thats really not that slow esp if we count the sql 2008 R2 update.

given how critical having a reliable SQL is i do not mind a 4-6 year time line between major updates.

There hasn't been a Silverlight TV episode since August. Considering the impending release of Silverlight 5, it does seem a bit odd that there's no coverage. I know that John Papa is leaving or has already left Microsoft, but is there really nobody else capable of taking over the show?

I think the thing is this:    has MS allocated any funds to do any more silverlight promotion / education ?

if they do not have a check to pay for it then it's not going to happen.  I suspect if we could see the job board it will not say much for "Silverlight Technical Evanglist"  right now....

and a lot for Metro .....  HTML5  and other stuff.

@Ian2: That's hilarious. I checked literally 30 minutes ago and saw that the RTW was still not available.

Now Duncan can turn the hounds loose to add Silverlight 64 bit support to C9.

That's what Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2 both were. I think the "R2" designation for WS2008R2 was unnecessary - the changes were too many for them to almost deny it was a major release. WS2003R2 was more like "Plus! for Windows" but for Windows Server, not like "Release 2".

Can't wait for the roadmap for SL 6! It's gonna be epic! Oh wait...
