I am no big fan of Metro, Sinofskiana and Win8, but the whining about Nokia makes my balls ache.
Nokia wouldn't be able to compete in Android-space against Samsung, HTC and the cheap-o Chinese assemblers anyway. It would have been the red-headed step child between Samsung's shiny Galaxies and HTC's offerings. How exciting.
The choice was: Continue with Symbian. That means competing against Google, Apple and Microsoft on software and their eco-systems. Yeah...
Go Droid and be Samsung's uglier sister.
Try to stand out (with Win Phone) and still be able to use the eco system of one of the big guys.
Their choice was logical. The only problem was Windows Phone itself. Most smart-phoners still seem to be in love with fart apps and shiny backgrounds on their cellies, basically they want a mobile game console. And MS offers for the Angry Birds addicts a system which looks as if it consists only of three colors..
I may be wrong on this, but making an android port to nokia phones is not that capital intensive. Nokia could have even made an N9 android port. At ~$300, i'd buy one. After all they had people who know linux pretty well, and i'm sure the community would have lent a hand ![]()
