The Samsung \\BUILD Tablet w/ W8 CP

I'm starting this thread a resource for those fortunate to have one of the tablets from \\BUILD or the Samsung Series 7 tablet running W8. If you have an issue you think might be directly related to the tablet (or a solution) please post them here. If there's better forum out there on the intertubes that you know of I'd appreciate a redirect. Thanks.

Here's my first contribution:

A2DP Bluetooth Fix

A2DP doesn't seem to work very well with the drivers baked in to the build. When I pause music in the music app half the time that kills sound altogether. Installing the latest widcomm drivers fixes this problem. Note: I have not tried this with other Bluetooth profiles but I had performed the same driver install with the DP build and all of the other profiles worked well.

*UPDATE* While the sound killing problem is gone (the sound mixer still has Bluetooth headphones as the playback device) it appears the new music app still has a problem resuming playback after being paused. It resumes playback but no sound. Firing up WMP works just fine. Another quality metro app...

Mentioned this before but tap-then-tap-a-second-finger to right click doesn't work in the desktop before, and I'm not sure if it's an actual Win8CP regression from Win7 or if it's a problem with my setup.

Does anyone have Intel WiDi working?  In which case what is your setup?

have you tried to stop the music and play again? And maybe wait for 10 seconds just to be sure the sound is not back.

And since you have the build tablet. Can you verify if video plays properly in Metro (try the Win7 sample video)? Like, is there a blank screen with sound when you first started playing the video? And how smooth is the Solitair game? just want to see if my HW is incompatible or not.

Music app: Yep, pause...wait minutes -- nothing. It's a POS.

I'll try a the video tonight.

Solitaire is smooth as butter.

I haven't used the video app though the preview to Puss in Boots I just played worked flawlessly. that said I suspect the player portion of video app and the music player are the same app or at least share libraries.

BTW, Metro Music is fine on my HP, but,t he music seems to have noise or stutter. And they also have the same problem I have with Metro Movie. The music plays a bit with no visual (aka the control bar and etc) I assume my HP is not fast enough to bring out the visual because it uses very weak Intel Graphics. Oh yeah, the graphics is very slow when I press that 4 arrows icon at bottom right corner, the GUI is very slow on my HP laptop.

I got the Slate7. First, there is no working driver for the accelerometer. If someon could dig out a W8 driver from the /BULD tablet it would be great. Second, tap and hold for context menu is very unreliable with finger. Works fine with pen.

I had the tap and hold issue with the DP but it's much better with the CP on the build tablet. I wonder if there are more driver/hardware differences than you'd think between these tablets. It also makes you wonder if the Windows devs are using the build tablet as the benchmark for "good enough". I'm sure at some point they'll run everything through some certification program.

Anyone having problems with the startup of the tablet? When I turn the tablet "off" the blue light goes out and the tablet suspends. About 1 out of 4 times when I turn it back on the blue light comes on but no screen. If I hold the power button down for say 10 seconds it forces it off and then works on subsequent power up. This is how it behaved right after the install of the CP. With the DP I would have this occur occationally too but not near as often.

@section31:I think Charles mentions something about a firmware update from Samsung in another thread, not sure if that is related tothis issue or not though

Did you specifically issue Shutdown? Or you are only closing the lid?

If only closing the lid, my HP has trouble waking up from hibernation (sleep is ok until it hibernates). I am confident the computer is running from the HDD activity blinker. But, no graphics. Probably a driver issue.

I think that was for the Series 7 and not the build tablet. They are slightly different. I've search around and can't find any support from Sammy on the build tablet.

I also have a weird issue where the tablet gets constant input from somewhere. It's like a stuck key on a keyboard. Any input control received endless 2's. But I don't have any keyboard connected to the tablet. Also the touch keyboard keeps disappearing.

It's effectively "closing the lid". I had the problem again this morning so I tried pining the tablet from my other computer and got no response. I suspect this goes deeper than the display driver but that was a great idea. Thanks.

I use the tablet primarily as a desktop assistant in. I use Outlook and OneNote on it, and fire up the web browser occationally to look stuff up. I have it in the dock but I don't use the bluetooth keyboard or mouse attached. Instead I use Mouse Without Borders so I can use my desktop PC's mouse and keyboard seemlessly with it. When it's meeting time I undock the tab and use OneNote with the provided pen. It's pretty slick. I highly recommend it for anyone with a similar setup.

Now if I could only find a way to wirelessly display my tablet's screen on the conference room's Samsung WiFI enabled LCD TV without adding a dongle or some other unnecessary contraption...

Does anyone know if the build table's bios and/or drivers are compatible with the Samsung Series 7 tablet? My shutdowns and startups are getting worse to the point where every time I shutdown the tablet via the power button the very next time I power the thing up it hangs on a black screen, no Samsung logo, nothing. I've also had two occasions where it's turned itself on (in the bag nonetheless creating lots of heat) and never goes back to sleep. My W7 PC does this too. I rarely can keep any of my Windows boxes asleep. Sure hope this problem doesn't follow W8 on tablets.

The only change I can think of is that I ran media center. I wonder if it's waking the tablet up to get epg updates?

@DeathByVisualStudio: So does the two-finger right-click on desktop still not work for you? I really prefer that to tap-and-hold.
