This seems somewhat relevant:

This girl's parents divorced and moved to another state. Because there is no safety net of social security, she is now forced to work two jobs (one full time, one part time) to support herself and her siblings.

And what is her reward for trying to be a good citizen and work herself out of this hole? She gets thrown in jail for missing school.

Texas. That's no surprise.

I remember for those of us who turned 18 before graduating high school, we were able to write our own "excuse notes" for missing class.

This girl should petition to become an "emancipated minor" so that she could excuse herself for her absences.
