If I were you I'd avoid thinking about upgrading your work computers to a version of Windows that hasn't been released yet. You'll be able to get a pay-for DVD player via the app-store if you really need it. It's just that you're not forced to pay for it when you purchase Windows, you only purchase the DVD codec licence if you need it.
