Why can't MS create a WP7 ad like this?

This might be old news now but check out this ad for Forza 4. I'm not sure what MS's involvement was in creating the ad, but they should immediately get the same people/group/agency involved in creating ads for WP7.

Please drop the nauseatingly fake family ads. It does more harm than good.

Yes I know the Forza ad doesn't translate at all to WP7, but whoever dreamt up that ad has some serious imagination. Think what they can come up with when that kind of creativity is applied to promoting WP7.

@BitFlipper:Jeremy Clarkson's voiceover made that ad. Everyone who would buy the game has probably watched Top Gear, so it's a great connection to have.

Because Microsoft has some of the worst advertisers in the world. I mean they produced this for crying out loud:

Which I think is one of the worst adverts I've ever seen. I've seen cheesy local adverts that looked like they cost £100 to make which I'd rate higher than that. 

This is the best technology ad I've seen, it's called "Dear Sophie" from Google. Apple makes good ads, but this one trumps them all

Holy crap that is a good ad. Not even just a good technology ad, just a really great ad in general.  

That's pretty good. It seems Microsoft only attempts to be cool and/or funny. They won't even try sentimental. Apple does sentimental (and often at that), but their commercials come off as so contrived, they're almost nauseating. Ugh.

Jeremy Clarkson is one of he best voiceover people around so that helped too.

Stupid fake families and swishing logos don't do anything to promote a product. Good adds that demonstrate what I product can do AND at the same time teach people how to use the product are far ore useful when it comes to something like a phone. Well educated users that know how to use a product efficiently will feel much better about it and in turn teach the people around them, which only leads to more sales.

"Edutainment" is very useful when it come to promoting something with as many features as a modern smartphone.  It's different than promoting a game of course.

@Minh: Majority seems to disagree with me here, strangely I prefer quirkiness of Seinfeld to bunch of babies. Ugh! Question for everone that prefered babies - what is it that made it look attractive to you? Is it 'puppy' effect of small children, is it infomation density, the way information in the ad is structured or presented, or the music? I don't get it, I hated it.

I liked the forza ad the first time I heard it as a middle schooler.  It was on vinyl, and it was called Red Barchetta.  There was a good deal of canadian prog rock involved, so I can't be sure but I'm like 75% certain.

Also, is it possible that I can hire that ad company to describe all the things I'm missing out on due to the fact that slaver isn't legal any more?

Cuz, man, having a slave would be awesome....

I guess I belong to the same minority. I think that the Seinfeld commercials were extremely ironic. That said, normally I don't feel the same with most Microsoft commercials.

I loved those Seinfeld ads too, they were insanely surreal and completely different than anything else on TV. Also, nobody knew what was going on so everyone was talking about them.

@RoyalSchrubber, well the whole idea behind is to stop you from going to the kitchen and to get a sandwich, and emotional, feel-good ads do that... quirky works I think only at the beginning... Can you imagine the BillG + Seinfeld ad going for 6 months? As to why, you don't go for puppies & babbies? Can you check your heart? Is it beating? lol j/k

@cbae, good point... I don't think I've seen an ad from microsoft where they try for the emotional effect... odd... Goes to my theory that MS is not a consumer company

Well, I think the reason I posted the link to the Forza ad in the first place was to highlight the fact that the Forza ad barely shows the product at all (only a few seconds at the end), yet the effect is quite real and desired. Read the YouTube comments. Comments like "This is why I regret buying a ps3". There are quite a few comments like that.

Doing such an ad for WP7 will make people have a positive view towards it, instead of immediately panning it because it is from MS, or has "Windows" in the name. I realize Jeremy Clarkson is an important ingredient here, but I wasn't familiar with him before I saw the ad the first time and it still had the desired effect on me. Get Morgan Freeman, or some other highly-recognizable voice-over.

Instead I can't reach for the FF button on the TiVo remote fast enough every time one of MS's cringe-worthy fake family ads comes along.

This is perhaps the best ad they've made. I guess this counts for the "emotional effect".
