Doesn't seem like a huge leap from the iPad 2 except for the nicer screen and camera and 4G-LTE support.

if these app developers support touch in windows 8, then i'd rather have access to all the legacy desktop software that a windows tablet brings.

I would be just as likely to get one as an iPad 2. The "problem" with the iPad is I just don't have a need for it in my life.    

If I spent an hour on the train, or did long international flights often, or had kids in the back of a car who I needed to keep quiet - sure I'd absolutely buy one.   

I have no ideological reasons against the iPad - it is likely the best tablet on the market right now, with only the Galaxy Tab really competing for "real." If the iPad 3 is great, then that is wonderful, but it changes nothing.   

Right now I own: 

 - Galaxy Note 
 - PC
 - Laptop

No room for anything else.

Yes, I can see that if it gives as good a reading experience as printed or a Kindle then it is a wothwhile progression.  I will reserve judgement until the next time I am passing an Apple store.

A legacy Intel tablet - which won't be getting anywhere near the battery life and thinness of ARM tablets for the next couple of years.

WOA gives you - well, *might* give you - the same apps on iOS...and, Office.  And you get Metro!

Uh...yeah.  2012 is all Apple again in the tablet market.

Slightly heavier (though not so much that you'd notice),

Lots of folk complaining that the resolution of the rear camera could be better (though I've yet to see anyone use their iPad like a camera). Lots of folk complaining that it hasn't got the full Siri experience (I wasn't expecting it to).

When it arrives at the local Apple Store I'll take a look, but I don't think there's enough there to upgrade this time round.

Having said that, once the developers start to churn out stuff that looks good on the Retina screen then I'll probably cave in.

The problem Apple had here was that there was way too much hype for an incremental upgrade. A few hours before the event, there was insane rumour that it was going to include a new revolutionary haptic display and would be made of liquid metal!

Still, with a little clever press manipulation, the CEOs of the companies involved managed to hike their share price for few hours.

Yes, so far I've resisted iOS development because I really don't think much of ObjectiveC as a language. Might have to suffer it the way things are going though ...

Apple products are less throwaway than most other technology out there, yes I would like an HD screen but I am still very happy with my iPad 2.

They could well be game changers for the tablet market.

The iPad 3 screen resolution is bringing it into very compelling territory though, but i'd still prefer a device that was a little less focused on pure content consumption. It'll be very interesting to see the first Windows 8 tablets and whether they are coming close featurewise.

Haha, me too. I don't like apple, and I take MS side. But I have to say iPad is a good product. I brought one iPad2 for my parents and waited Windows 8 for a really long time. The consumer preview disappointed me so much, especially when I hear that WOA is not going to show up until 2013. I'm going to by a iPad and not going to wait anymore.
