Win8, dumb question FAQs.

Hello, this is a place to ask Win8 dumb questions. Me go first.

1) How to have "My Computer" back onto desktop, no a shortcut?

• 1) Right click on desktop | Personalize
• 2) Change desktop icons

2) How to activate the Window Bar on the Right using mouse? (I guess touch is swipe right out of screen? can we do that with a mouse?)

3) How to activate Metro Keyboard?

• Right click on taskbar and it is one of the toolbars.

4) How to close an app in Metro (especially the Labyrinth app because it plays music)?

• (touch) unknown
• (mouse) unknown
• (keyboard) alt+F4
• You can suspend the app by going to other apps, but, not a simple start button. Start button only display the main page without suspending the current app.

5) Where is Metro Explore/MoviePlayer/Recycler? (Preview build only).

6) how do you shutdown Windows 8 as a desktop user?

• Hover the mouse where the Start menu used to be. Click settings. Way over on the other side of the screen, click Power. Click Shutdown.

• You can press your avatar in Metro, log off (NOT lock), then shutdown.

7) how to put a Metro tile onto desktop as shortcut?

• You can use Task Manager, App History, then Switch To. Still cannot make shortcut, also cannot open the source folder.

8) how to sign on to C9 and Live sites using different live ID?

9) how to launch directly to Desktop?

10) Metro app doesn't count as a process in the taskbar?

11) How to do Mango like App History, so we don't have to keep swiping?

I always do it from the start menu. But, since they changed start menu, my way is lost.

that's why I wanted to see if I can use window bar by mouse, at least window bar is closer at right.

Can i ask a dumb question about WinRT?

If CLR and BCL are gone (from .Net to WinRT I believe ) and WinRT is just an API that you can use with C# or whatever language. What does that mean to the managed world?, the VM still exist?, what happened to the garbage collector? there is no more IL?

PS: the keynotes are blocked at work and there isn't much info about this.

hmm i don't get how to do that.. ive been looging out, them powering down (a pain) thats pre beta software for ya

also missing the windows + arrow keys for snapping metro apps, they still work on the desktop though

also missing the ability to drag the start screen around using the mouse [by dragging out side any tile], that scrollbar is not so cool

biggest one for me though is understanding how to sign into c9 and other live services with another live id than the one tied to my login

aah now i get it, hovering didn't work for me, but by touching the very edge of the screen right in the lower left corner the 'start' menu appears and there you can click settings and do power down. this also works in desktop mode. [however clicking the start button in desktop will bring up the start screen]

PS I hope someone puts a utility in the app store to mount windows iso files on to thumb drives.

PPS I hope someone puts apps in the app store, starting with the MSDN subscriber downloads.

PPPS Metro really doesn't work well with the mouse.

yeah, but, to make it less painful, remember you can use scroll wheel up and down, and start menu will scroll left and right respectively.

How do you get the on screen keyboard to move out of the way to see this ch9 box that I am typing into?

It is not able to hold web page scrolled up.  makes it hard to arrow back and correct.

Metro is part of explorer.exe now. Explorer.exe used to just be the normal desktop+taskbar but it looks like Metro is a part of that process.

how do i prevent all the program shortcuts from showing up in the metro when installing pre-metro apps?  usually there is just 1 of all those shortcuts that is the main and only one needed.  taken to its extreme the metro screen will be riddled with 100's of now flat listed shortcuts.

When I'm reading a page in Classic Windows IE and I get bumped into Metro Land, why is the IE there on a different page?
