I've been trying to add my photos and music to the Metro apps and if I understand correctly, I need to add the folder locations to the Libraries.

I've got my Music and Photos located on a Windows 2008 R2 server with the Windows Search service running and configured to index those locations.

Initially, I simply added the network location to the library ie: \\SERVER\Shared\Music, and this SORT OF worked, I was only able to see the folders in the photos and only some music showed up with some track info missing.

Then I made the folders available offline and added them again, this time NOTHING shows up.

Has anyone gotten the Metro apps to work with network locations?

Selecting the Easy Access button at the top of a network share and then selecting "Include in Library" doesn't seem to do anything at all. I have to add locations to the library through the library's properties screen.

But even then, the Metro media player would only see some of my music. The picture viewer still insists I have no photos either, despite one of the library locations containing at least a hundred or so photos.

Just to see if it worked at all, I copied some data locally to the disk.  The Metro apps worked as expected with that.

Not a solution though.

Had to resort to locally copying files from my NAS onto my hard-drive to test Windows 8 libraries. Hopefully it'll be fixed before the final release.

Hmm you sure? When you configure a WHS box you find their music/pictures/videos/recorded TV libraries added to the libraries on your local machine.

I'm able to add the UNC path to the library just fine since I'm indexing the folders on the server. I have to use the server name, not the DFS domain name path I normally use, but that's a whole other thing.

I've added the folders to the respective libraries (actually re-homed the default libraries to the SD Card) and still no joy.

Removables didn't work in Win7 either.

Because to my understanding, the CP Movie App only allows single video to be searched in your collection. I only have 1 out of 3 videos shown in the app, and each one can be seen in the App if I delete the other two videos in the folder.

I tried the suggestion, but it unfortunately doesn't work.
Win8 automatically recreates default libraries, and we have to manually create the symbolic link with mklink to "index" the network share… works +/- with MediaCenter - but not with Metro apps Sad
