Tried syncing, didn't help. Tried restarting the app, didn't help.

If I try to send a new message, it just gets stuck in the outbox and I can't even delete that one!

Anybody has issues with this, or should I just switch to another e-mail client?

I'd check another email app to make sure it's not your provider.

The message I've tried to send went through, but the original problematic message is still stuck. It's an e-mail with a >25MB attachment that was supposed to be sent via a GMail account, until I noticed later on it's too big and violates GMail policies... but I receive no message that the e-mail couldn't be sent, and I still can't click the damn thing and delete it, nor can I move it anywhere else. The metro interface is very limiting in this situation.

I cannot find a way to remove it though.

I'm afraid that Mail app may consume a lot of network resource when bring it foreground every time because it may try to send the huge email again.

There is a column in there so you can see all the apps and how many MB/s they're using.

Yeah, but the Mail app should at least tell you it's too big and let you remove it from the Outbox. This is just lazy design. I've been disappointed with all of the "app previews".

Message stuck in the outbox (no attachments) and the folders have stopped syncing.

I really hope MS fixes these issues before October or it really will be another Vista.

I did a cold restart and it seems to have "unstuck" things for now. The inbox hadn't been updated for three days.

Turn network connections off on your PC (either unplug network cable or switch off wireless), then go to the outbox in the app and click on the email. It now has an option to delete, which it didn't have before. This is because, whenever your connected to the internet, it will keep trying to send it, so you don't get an option to delete.

thanks @leojameselli​ot for the tip, cutting the machines internet connection indeed does bring up a delete option (!) seriously, what were the designers thinking.

(metro-)mail is nice at first glance but it lacks some serious features, even more for non-touch-users.

- collapsing/expanding imap folders
- drag/drop support for moving/copying mail
- deleting emails stuck in outbox folders (without the need to be offline to do so)
- giving more info about what's going on (send/receive progress)

There is a "simpler" way, which is still pretty stupid. Hopefully MS will fix this soonish, I actually kind of like the new mail client (and the Modern UI part of Win8 in general) but these oversights are pretty shocking !

Anyways, the fix:

  • disable your network interface(s) (Win key+W, type "view network connections", right-click and Disable your network connection)
  • open the Mail app and go to the outbox
  • there is now a delete icon in the top right for each stuck mail item !
  • don't forget to enable your connection(s) again Tongue Out

You can't right-click on anything in a metro app. Right-clicking brings up the app bar.
