Windows Phone 7.8

I've learned that Microsoft is going to be releasing an update to current Windows Phones, to version 7.8.  So, I've got 2 question.  I've got an HTC Trophy; will version 7.8 be coming out for the Trophy?

Second question; when's this love coming?

If your HTC Trophy is running 7.5, it probably will be updateable to 7.8.

I am expecting the 7.8 update to be generally available around the time that Windows Phone 8 comes out. With the caveat that your carrier mileage may vary.

Not necessarily. According to Paul Thurrot the update should be delivered directly by Microsoft. Fingers crossed.

I am guessing it is coming out around the time WP8 comes out? I do want to get it early though, because I can update it, play around, and get the new phone. Mine is 1st gen, so it is just in time to renew my contract. I am not sure if 1st gen can upgrade either, I hope it is.

It looks like every WP7.x device will get upgraded to 7.8. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I don't think there's anything to worry about. They seemed pretty clear that every device that's currently runner 7.5 will get 7.8.

When Windows Phone 8 comes out?  When's that likely to happen?

"Around" the time of the Windows 8 release. If its true that this update can bypass the carriers, I don't know if that complicates the time line or makes it easier

I hope as a registered software developer for the phone, that I see the update before general availability.

There are various speculations about when Windows 8 will be out. October is my best guess. (I think there are still bugs to work out).

If only we had a large conference of some type in the fall to encapsulate all these releases and technologies *sigh*

When do you think Windows Phone 8 going to be available for GA? Can I get the 7.8 update if I has a Windows Phone developer account?

I've been waiting for 7.8 since they announced it. I still don't have the update that fixes the disappearing keyboard bug. I'm glad MS decided to deliver 7.8 directly to the phones this time.

As far as a date, I'd imagine it will coincide with Windows Phone 8, so October 29th?
