Have the speaker let out a loud tone that was too high a frequency to hear. And listen on the microphone to see if the sound is interrupted, by something that tested like a handbag or pocket.

It has pocket mode which will be louder in pocket and purse. And move mode that disable ring when you are already in the process of taking it out.
