Does anyone know if RT comes with a Remote Desktop client? I'm wondering if I can save some cash and get an RT tablet and just remote into my desktop to run x86 software. I've been thinking about it, and VS would be the only reason I'd need x86 support on a tablet. If I could just remote into my PC, I'd get the best of both worlds.

I think you can build in VS2012 and have it run on the RT tablet through the network, with debugging...if that's what you're looking for.

@Harlequin: No, I'm just looking for something that would let me sit out in the living room and mess around with the latest dev stuff. I don't care if it's built on the tablet or not.

There's a remote desktop app in the store, and I think it might be preinstalled. Any app in the store (except for desktop apps) will run on RT.

There are actually two RDP clients avalible for/in Windows RT... one is the existing MSTSC native app, as well the Modern app in the store.
More fun is that it also has full support for TS Remote Apps

How would that work?

Which reminds me, I need to figure out how to configure that under Win8, so I can expose my legacy VS2010 VM as just an app.

Two ways... one is the old school way of an admin publishing an RDP file... the other is through a new Company Apps feature in Windows RT.

As in VS2010 as a RemoteApp via TS? Hope it's on a Server SKU and you've licensed all of the TS goodies that come in box... otherwise you'll just be able to TS to the desktop and do your work there.
I was blessed to receive a Surface early (2 weeks ago tomorrow) and love everything about it... except for my impossibility of doing much of anything when TSed into a Windows 7 box without a physical keyboard... though I've not had much time to look into if I can tweak anything on the Win7 side to make things better.

Rumour has it I can fake up an RDP file and run it as a remote app ...

@dahat:

Mine still says that the order is "in process", even though it promises delivery by Friday. I was hoping for a tracking number so that I could spend all day at the package carrier's site: *F5*, "damn", *F5*, "damn", *F5*, "damn", *F5*, "damn"
-
@kettch:I feel your pain... though I thought there was a way to check on a tracking # even if it hasn't been sent yet.

-
@dahat: Oh sweet. I hadn't seen that.
-
Or you/he could just deploy said app(s) to a Server SKU and license Terminal Services.

This brings up a related question. Is it possible to search the Windows Store from the web? I'd love to be able to browse the apps available before committing to a hardware purchase.
