Coffeehouse - XBox with Windows 8 at core

I think it is an obvious path. I thought Xbox is basically using windows core to begin with. DX , XNA, etc. So yeah... It is basically means the dev time is shorter with win8 core. , although they only have released win7 version of baseline or whatever that name is. I am pretty sure they will use Win8 before they make the baseline to the public.

This isn't meant to be a serious suggestion, but how about a multi-core device using Hyper-V and some of the remote-FX work. That way you could have a parent partition that manages all the day to day stuff and could run add-ins manage the PVR system etc., and games ship as VHDs that get booted into a protected environment with it's own dedicated set of resources...

But I suspect you'll see more and more content moving into the realms of on-demand and customers can have the ability to "record" that without having to worry about two or more things possibly overlapping. You can already do this to some extent in the UK with Sky's Anytime+ service. The obvious next step is to simply replace the "record" button in the cable/satelitte box with a background download from the t'interwebs.

I can record two HD ATSC channels at the same time and watch a blu-ray disc with my Celeron E3200 and 2GB of RAM. Recording HDTV does not require many resources at all.

I'd love it if the next Xbox came with a TV tuner built-in. Cablecard would be an extra bonus. But I don't think that will happen. Everyone seems poised to move to IPTV. Comcast has a deal on the Xbox to stream channels. It's much easier to implement IPTV than it is to send out channels to subscribers' homes and support decrypting boxes with slow, confusing menu systems.
