@Bass:Thats just where you are incorrect. Its a fine point. Apple have only sold 16 million iPads, yes they make a boatload more money per iPad than a Windows license, but Windows 7 has sold 400 million+ licenses. I think they overreacted in Windows land, and ought to have made less of a fuss about the new metro UI.
There really is no subtlety to why windows 8 is a failure, don't dictate or ignore 400 million customers. Don't forget about your existing customers, and don't remove functionality from windows and make everything harder just to do. I forsee the majority of users asking for Windows 7 to be installed on their machines when they go to buy a windows 8 machine.
