Want to get rid of apps?
There's an app for that.

Once the cat is out of the bag the only thing you can do is getting an antiallergic. And that particular cat has been roaming the world since 2007.
On the bright side, things could have gone a lot worse.

I find it good to make the distinction between "useful, functional application" and "limited, useless app".
An "app" may "do one thing well" but if you want to do more...
I'll stick to applications, thanks.

+1.
When I hear "application" I think of Wireshark or Microsoft Word or Firefox - something big that does something I need it to do properly.
When I hear "app" I think "time-wasting utility" or "a different view of a website that is just for phone-users".
