Rename - Do not download offline map on WP8 unless you like crappy result.

Just FYI, once you download offline map, you will never get the traffic aware direction result from the cloud. It doesn't matter you have internet or not. It will always compute using your phone. Which gives you crappy result.

 Summary

1. Direction is always offline when offline map is installed.
2. Address search is always online regardless offline map is installed or not.
3. Address search can only be done offline when it is already searched online and cached locally. Which means there is no offline address search in contrast of what they claimed.
4. The button hold lat/lon is always offline anyway.

Why remove offline map? Because the direction is a lot worse compare to the cloud result. It doesn't know traffic. And as I pointed out, the direction is inconsistent. Extend your destination changes your route in an useless way. Hence I was complaining the result sux compare to Mango before. It turns out the map is not crippled, it is the downloaded map that crippled my direction result.

k it appears I may not be using cloud direction at all. And the local computed result is oddly inconsistnet. For example, when I go from my home to 405 and then 110 and then somewhere before 10. It will give me a proper route to 405. But when I go further to end of 110, instead of going on the same route and extend it, it decided to go a long route to 405. O

his concludes it. If I download the map, I get bad result while having internet active. Because it computed locally. So, I need to remove maps if I want useful,results. The map doesn't seem to work great as well. It says I can search offline, but it couldn't search my addresses offline actually. I can hold the lat/lon as destination, but, not search the address. Aka, we need downloaded map to work properly before we install them. T

In answer to the question in the title:

Turn off data.

I would assume there's also an option somewhere in the map software, but as I use Nokia's I wouldn't know...

actually I tested it. As long as I have offline map, the direction computation is always offline. Thus, I have to remove the offline map completely and never download them again until they change this behavior.
