Hey everyone. Well I did install Windows 8 CP on my desktop, which does not have a wired connection so i have to use a Netgear N 150 wireless adapter. I did install the drivers that came from the disc, But I keep getting that error everytime i click on the connect icon. So does anyone have any suggestions as what to do. Thanks in advance.

@darthstingy123:Cool but not really cool, lol somebody that actually has my problem. I have no problems with Windows 8 CP on the laptop, both installs were done with that setup.exe that MS has, So i am going to burn an .iso to a dvd this time, last time i burned the image this morning, I tried to install it to the Desktop and it was a no go. It said "No bootloader found" so im burning it again to see what happens, if anything else i will just put Windows 8 developers preview back on both computers. One observation I noted with Windows 8 CP on the 2gb ram desktop, it uses so much less Ram, which i like alot and want to use it so bad, even the Windows 8 DE used less Ram then Windows 7, so we we will see what happens.

It's an error in the driver. I'd contact Netgear, but I'm sure they'll say "we don't support beta OSes".

It's probably an error on Windows7 too, it's just the Windows8 CP is a checked build (deliberately so) whereas the Windows7 that most people have is the release build. Consequently the driver is also wrong on Windows7, it's just that Windows7 release doesn't detect the error and bugcheck the system.
Unfortunately if you don't work for the company concerned, the only thing you can do is disable the driver (and hence the device) in order to keep the system stable. As a user you can't do anything more clever than that to prevent this kind of error.

Exact same problem, exact same wireless adapter. The bluescreen I get for windows 8 consumer preview is, IRQL_unexpected_value. I was trying this on a spare PC so not too worried, but it would be nice to see this working.

I have a fix for this need to download atheros_wifi_9.2.0.19 and manually update the driver here is a link to a place for dl http://ez2.x-drivers.com/ad157e3ec67f3f994b0603cd099a9dbe/www.x-drivers.ru_atheros_wifi_9.2.0.19-win7.zip

The Windows 8 CP is not a checked build. Where did you get this idea?

@methods0024:I installed the drivers from your link, and that did not work either. My friend has a Belkin adapter and it works. The Netgear adapter works on Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 8 Dev Preview but not Consumer Preview. I did order a Belkin adapter from Newegg. Thanks for trying to help me out.

This looked like a failed ASSERT which are only on checked builds. It may be the case that this is a hard-check.

Glad to see there are others with this problem (well, not glad but you know what I mean...). I've reinstalled twice to no effect, and other than dealing with wireless, everything is fairly stable on my end.

I have the exact same problem and this is the only place it is addressed. I've tried many troubleshooting techniques, like updating the driver and all that crap. Nothing fixes the problem so far. The only way I can keep my computer running is to disable the adapter. Since this is only the beta version, We have nothing to complain about, but I hope Microsoft will fix this problem in the final win8 version. @thiebaude did Belkin adapter worked in yours?
-
@pdhimal1:Its seems Belkin worked, because I have tried 2 different types of Belkin adapters. I have a Belkin on order from Newegg. See i have to have a usb wireless adapter for my desktop, because it is too far away from a wired/wireless modem we have in the mancave. But overall Windows 8 is awesome, and I plan to keep win 8 on both desktop and laptop, and when win 8 rc is released I will upgrade to win 8, since the win 8 cp expires on Jan 15 of next year.

same here
bsod saying "irql_unexpected_value" followed by death...
i dont have feasible internet connectivity save for my netgear modem.. i think i will roll back to developer's preview till a solution is found..
any help would be immensely appreciated as i 'was' super excited about checking out the consumer's review and without internet, half of my installations wont work...

This is a driver error. It can't be fixed other than by disabling the device or waiting for release drivers to be released by the company. Until then you'll either have to do without the device or go back to an earlier version of Windows.

@thiebaude, Thanks! @shobhantaparia, try using other wireless adapters like belkin, or wired connection, if possible! Enjoy!

2) Right click the downloaded .exe setup and go to Properties>Compatibility
3) In "Run this program in compatibility mode for", Select Windows 7, Apply the changes and shut it.
4) Run the setup now, it will install successfully.
