Free online MIT courses. I would not hesitate to acknowledge a "degree" worth of online studies, though unpaid and unofficial, on a new hire's resume. Don't tell MIT that...

Free education is in our best interest; and online technology is the best route to implement it.

Channel 9 has been educating me in Microsoft's technology for nearly a decade now.

What would be cool, is to watch the videos and to be able to take the exam!

I've currently been taking a course from the University of Michigan on Coursera. It's pretty neat..even if does just consist of watching video lectures and taking online assignments. That's basically what I did for courses in school that I couldn't stand attending lecture for: I read their lecture notes, watched the video lecture if they had one, used wikipedia to fill in the gaps, and asked peers for help when I needed to. I ended up learning so much that way.

I'm currently planning on taking PGM (Stanford University) if anyone else is interested as well.

I learned a lot just from reading threads on C9 and getting real perspectives on how stuff is done in the real world. Books overload you with information and make you believe you have to think of every random bit when designing a solution, and at that point, you lose sight of the purpose. Schools don't even teach anything in the Microsoft stack. I think I'd even credit my first job to C9.
