I looked at your pic in full size, and those fonts are still way smaller than what it looks like for me. What's more, that isn't Segoe UI. Don't you have the Segoe UI font on your system? What OS are you running?

Here's what it should look like, with Explorer side-by-side:

You can clearly see that the text on C9 is larger than the text in Explorer (see the "e" in "Desktop" and "sven" for example).

Also, my image is clickable (inserted using the image button on the editor toolbar).

edit: maybe they are trying to be like facebook with small leaded tahoma... but i can read facebook - it is smaller than that.  i mainly want to know - does everyone see this font (fonts) smaller than facebook?  or am i crazy and my fonts are wrong

Herbie is right that C9's fonts aren't optimal, but it's not supposed to be anywhere near as bad as you are seeing.

Personally, I despise Segoe UI and fontsubstitute it to Tahoma, as I find that more readable.

If you are using Fireox, you can set the minimum font size that overrides the page styling.

Makes a bit of a mess at times, but can be useful.

EDIT: Actually, checking the CSS, C9 actually uses Arial, not Segoe UI (I thought it used Segoe UI; may have been a previous iteration I guess). In any case, the font Jamie is seeing is not Arial either, the font in his screenshot is not the same as in my screenshot, and clearly smaller.

It's like calling Fox and complaining that their volume is too loud.

HTML was designed (in a long ago, forgotten time) to be logical (semantical) markup. It was assumed the user was savvy enough to change color/size/font. Then came the designers with their photoshop files..... thus FONT tag was born, and nothing was the same again.

Q: How do you separate the good sites from the ones that were designed by babies?

A: You change the minimum font size, and watch their grand design fall to pieces.

So your answer: go to settings and change the minimum font size, your life will not be the same (especially since your bank site will not work again )

EDIT: the plus side: more and more sites are getting robust enough to not go crazy after this simple change.

As for IE setting, you have TWO places to set.

1. Font size.
2. Zoom.

As for system wide font size, including Desktop, Visual Studios, and Windows Explore, change DPI in control panel. I used to set 125% on my 24in 1080p monitor. Once I get to 27in 1080p, I get my DPI down to 110%.

And if you are using MetroIE in CP build, MetroIE is not as smart, it doesn't default your zoom to match your DPI. You need to zoom manually.

Ok, I have increased by browser font and I can read it all more easily -- unfortunately, the menu at the page header is now broken (with the C9 logo overlapping the first button).  So I can blame C9 for my choices

- i have arial and segoeUI installed (of course)

- i do NOT wish to monkey with fonts sizes / zooming for ONE site (believe it or not i know how to use those features)

- i just opened FF and the font is fine there - but IE - the browser i STILL USE - they are mouse size

I noticed that when I'm signed in (and using custom CSS), the width of the "mainContent" div element resizes with the browser window. When I'm not signed in (i.e. not using custom CSS), the div element does NOT resize.

IOW, the custom CSS can make a lot of weird things happen in how this forum renders.

You need only be signed in as a user in one browser to post. Are you signed in on both browsers using the same account?

The only difference I see is when I'm signed in vs. not signed in. It doesn't matter what browser I'm using. When signed in, the forum looks the same to me in both Chrome and IE. When not signed in, the forum looks the same to me in both Chrome and IE.

That's why you should use em instead of point and pixel fonts

The only other thing I can imagine is possibly that your screen dpi settings are set to something unusual, because I believe IE tries to accomodate for that, which can cause text to look mis-sized on occasion.
