Rumors are mounting that Microsoft is developing a seven-inch Xbox Surface device targeted at gamers.

The device would use an ARM processor, a customized version of Window's tablet operating system and high-bandwidth RAM designed specifically for gaming tasks, though it is understood that it would still be able to be used as a regular tablet.

There's also talk of it working with a base station (which would presumably be the next Xbox) and it basically being Microsoft's version of the Wii U. The whole "it's also a tablet" thing seems fishy to me: the specs are low and it's running on a custom version of Windows, which seems directly in opposition of the whole W8/WRT thing.

Then again, it's Microsoft.
