For the features you listed that the C9 team hasn't already made plans to improve on/include in the near future, the phpBB forum I frequent also doesn't have them and the company team has no intentions of including them. For obvious reasons too...they don't really add anything. And I certainly don't wish the forum had them.

If it's so frustrating for you to use the C9 forums, perhaps you are here way too frequently and it might be time to take a break.

"You don't need that feature anyhow since I'm not using it myself" ...good thinking.

    Enough said.

hahhhahha... You sure you used other forums?

    • How about REAL signatures?
    • How about "Spoiler" tags?
    • Where are these tags you are talking about btw? I don't see them! Wink...
    • How about auto emailing the replies?
    • How about internal messaging between users?
    • How about votes?
    • How about themes?
    • How about ability to choose to see or not to see what stuff like avatars, signatures etc?
    • How about ignore function?
    • How about subscribing/bookmarking threads?
    • How about friends list?
    • How about group memberships?
    • How about event reminders?
    • How about calendars?
    • How about a real advanced search and not just a text box?

And that is only the basic stuff.

Your quote "I frequent another forum that uses phpBB. The only thing I can tell that C9 doesn't have is the ability to change text formatting for posts..."

    ...Give me a break.

mmm okay, you do have some points... There are some things I'd like to see on C9v4 someday:

     - Signatures
     - Auto-email replies
     - User-added polls
     - Ignore function (Would this affect threads, replies, or both?  Let's get checkboxes for that)

And yes, you're getting angry.  Calm people (At least educated calm people) don't sprinkle caps and bold tags throughout their entry; they understand that if someone's going to read their post, it will be conveyed either way. All caps and bold tends to make your text more difficult to read; but props for using a bulleted list instead of a very long paragraph.

I'd also like to press enter in the editor and get one linebreak instead of two... Having to press shift-enter is somewhat annoying... But Word does that too sometimes Smiley

[Edit re: mVPstar]: As these points are addressed, just consider them "feature votes" Smiley

I'm very well educated, you would drop dead if you knew what I do. Stop patrinising me for the way I speak.

You do realize you're falling back into the exact same pattern of behavior that has gotten you banned twice already?  One would think you'd learn, especially when the C9 team keeps giving you second chances.

You've been being abusive and you know it.  Stop now, and people will continue taking you seriously, instead of assuming you're an angry, uneducated idiot.

I wasn't saying you were uneducated.  I was saying you aren't both educated and calm.

"I use them so they must be useful."

And now we're back to square one. Despite the fact that you merely picked out one thought from my post and ignored the actual meaning, I'll state it plain and simple: a forum does not need all those features for it to work as a forum. Sure, you could request it, but for saying the C9 forum is faulty because it does not have feature x doesn't make sense.

Cue bold-face-all-caps come back in 5..4..3...

  • Mike SampsonSampy And I come back to you now - at the turn of the tide

The other big difference between C9 and phpBB is that phpBB is a forum engine and C9 is not.

Forums are a part of what we do, sure but it's not all we do. In fact, it's not even most of what we do.

Some of those features are things we've had on lists around the office but making the best forum software with every bell and whistle out there isn't our goal and it probably never will be. We'll make improvements to what we have now for sure but the forums aren't the point of the site and they probably never will be.

Starter entries (the first post in a thread) are tagged with their forum. All other posts have a parent (the post they are in reply to) and a starter (the thread they are in). We've been rethinking the idea of a "primary tag" as a container though and may go with a more distinct "container" concept since the primary tag idea causes strangeness in some places.
