Just notice something strange, if you go to a video such as http://channel9.msdn.com/posts/martinesmann/Don-Syme-FSharp-and-functional-programming-in-NET/ and
click the WMV (High) link and close wmp, then drop the list down again the WMV (High) option is missing. Doesn't matter which link you click, it always vanishes.
IE8 on Vista-SP1 x64

When you pick something from the list that item should become the default for the list so you don't have to open the list again (unless that item isn't available on a post) so you should instead see something like the following if you picked WMV (High).

If you don't have a start button that might be your problem
On a serious note - do you get any JavaScript errors? I'll take a look under the covers to see what could cause it to hang up. It's working on both versions of IE8 I have on on my desk so I don't know off hand what's breaking.
